Ricky Thomas Ponting called his retirement before the Perth Test vs South Africa. Not one of the ends he would have dreamt of. Just a mere 4 runs in first innings, lbw Philander and another 8 runs in the final innings of a wonderful career, c Kallis b Petersen.
Ponting might not have had 2012 as one of his greatest year though. Was struggling of form and then a century at SCG against India boosted his career with another double ton at Adelaide. Though being back in form in tests, didn't had a nice CB series against Ind and SL. Was dismissed for less than 10 runs in the 5 consecutive innings of the series and was dropped from the sixth game. Ponting immediately called off his retirement from the shorter format and concentrated on Test Cricket.
No century from last 12 innings he played and the end of an Era came at the W.A.C.A. . W.A.C.A would feel proud that one of the finest cricketers in the history began his career and ended up there.
Ponting is often compared to Sachin, Lara, Kallis, Waugh, Border, Ranatunga and many more batting legends. Is he the best of his generation ??
Or was he not considered as high as he is because he played in the era of Sachin, Dravid, Lara ? ?
